SM 38 - Chondrule and inclusion rich stone. Area imaged is ~ 1cm wide

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8009/7270134388_dea250c62b_k.jpg

SM 49 - Fracture surface showing fusion crust (far left) and two large rounded lumps protruding from sample. Sample is 25 mm wide.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7230/7269893134_af243604d1_k.jpg

SM 49 - One side of SM49 showing slickensides. Width of specimen is 25 mm.

SM 49 - Red "fusion crust" on Sutter's Mill fragment SM49. The normal fusion crust is also visible on the lower left surface.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7244/7269893280_c1ec16b34c_k.jpg

SM 6 - Half of SM6 showing the two primary lithologies. Left side shows the lithology with abundant white inclusions. White inclusions are rare to absent on the right side of the specimen. Width of specimen is 14 mm.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7077/7269893428_bcaddb118b_k.jpg

SM 49 - Close up of slickensides on SM49.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7227/7269893598_dd6501a11d_h.jpg

SM 8 - The ASU piece of SM8 is dominated by the white inclusion-rich lithology, with a small area of dark, white-inclusion free area on the left. Specimen width is 13 mm.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7086/7269893652_129fd1917b_k.jpg

SM 41 -
Most of the ASU piece of SM41 is free of white inclusions (chondrules, CAIs), though there are rare isolated mineral fragments. Prominent in the dark matrix are golden "relict chondrules" replaced by Fe-Ni-sulfides. Specimen is ~ 1 cm across. The greenish tinge is caused by my incorrect white-balance compensation.

SM 41 - Close up of a golden "relict chondrule" in SM41. The "relict chondrule" is ~ 1 mm across.

Korrektur meiner Aussage in Beitrag # 154

Meteor explosion sets off modern-day Gold Rush

http://today.ucla.edu/portal/ut/meteorite-explosion-sets-off-modern-234411.aspx

Zitat
Wasson has asked meteorite hunters to donate some of what they’ve recovered to science. "The world," Wasson said, "will be doing research for the next 100 years" on the meteorite, which now has the official name of Sutter’s Mill. [...] UCLA’s cosmochemists are currently preparing to open the new UCLA Meteorite Exhibit in the Geology Building to the public sometime in late summer or fall. This is the first time the entire collection will be displayed in its own room, a veritable meteorite museum. A sample of Sutter's Mill would be an instant attraction, Wasson said.

Brien Cook teilt dies mit:

Zitat
I received an email today from Denton Ebel with some preliminary data from the CT scan. He has requested to keep it a little longer to do another CT scan to hopefully get better images. I converted the 963 slice images into a movie for easy viewing.

Denton has also written an abstract which you can download here

http://www.briencook.com/lotus/amnh/EbelEtal-MS2012-CTonSutterMill-Final.pdf

Here are a few closeups as well.

Hallo,

http://www.mrmeteorite.com/sutterforsale.htm  :wow: :crying: :wow:

Zitat
This specimen has brown secondary crust - I've heard this is due to atmospheric conditions upon entry into our world and NOT due to terrestrial weathering.
